There are 15 permanent exhibitions open to public, many of which hold various tangible materials, interactive games and audiovisual information.
Most of information is provided in Latvian, however in each exhibition hall there is a printed guide in English and Russian. Guide holder is located at the entrance in the exhibition.

Last Saturday of every month* is "Family Saturday". It is an event about specific subject for families with children aged 5–12. The event takes place in various exhibitions, and educational tasks are usually combined with creative activities. The subjects include fungi, bird migration, dinosaurs, ancient humans, volcanoes, insects, and many more. In every "Family Saturday" a task book (in Latvian or Russian) is provided.
The event is in Latvian, however, everyone is welcome to attend.
The last Saturday of the month 11.00–16.00.
Admission – museum entrance ticket + event ticket 2,00 € for family (only if task book in Latvian or Russian is obtained).
By providing one of season's task books at the ticket desk, new task book is for free.
The collection specimen presentation
The Latvian Museum of Natural History holds a remarkable natural history collection, and only small fraction is showcased in the exhibitions. To demonstrate specimen of, otherwise carefully stored, collections to visitors, the second Saturday of every month* is a day of "The collection specimen presentation". It is also a unique opportunity to meet the museum's scientific staff. The presentations are held in the exhibitions, and usually lasts 30 minutes per subject.
The second Saturday of the month at 12.00 and 13.30 (subject 1) and 12.30 and 14.00 (subject 2).

Textbook for children
The textbook "Discover the Latvian Museum of Natural History" for children (age 7 to 12) will help you to discover the Museum’s treasures and wonders you can encounter in nature in Latvia and worldwide.
The Latvian Museum of Natural History dates back more than 170 years, it holds more than 200 thousand valuable natural specimens – rocks, minerals, herbariums, mounted mammals and birds, insects and fossils of various organisms from Latvia and around the world. These specimens are called a collection. The Museum’s exhibitions represent small but remarkable part of the overall collection.
The textbook will help to understand why do we need the Museum, will explain the importance of natural history specimens and will make your visit more entertaining. Find answers to questions, draw, paint and take photos!
The textbook in Latvian, Russian, English or German is available for purchase at the Museum's ticket office during the opening hours. When buying the textbook you will also receive a pencil.
