There are more than 14 000 known species of ants worldwide. It is estimated that our planet is inhabited by at least 20 x 1015 or 20 000 000 000 000 000 (20 quadrillion) ants, which amounts to an average of 2.5 million ants per person on the planet. Ants range in length from 0.8 to 52 mm.
