Summer is the right time not only to go out into the nature, but also to visit the Latvian National Museum of Natural History. The exhibitions provide answers to various nature related questions about plants, mushrooms, birds, animals, insects and rocks that can be observed in Latvian meadows, forests and coastal areas.

In its 180th anniversary, the museum continues to provide a wide range of permanent exhibitions, short term exhibitions and various events. The permanent exhibition "Life in the Seas", recently opened after reconstruction, invites to go on a journey around the world, introducing marine animals in five climate zones, however, special attention is paid to the Baltic Sea in a separate hall, highlighting species that live on the Latvian coast.

The permanent exhibition “Plants and Fungi of Latvia” helps not to get confused in the diversity of plants and mushrooms found in the summer meadows and forests, while the permanent exhibition “The World of Insects” encourages to look at every tiny insect with a great interest.

Also, the other permanent exhibitions continue to be popular among the visitors, inviting for a deeper understanding of nature and taking care of it.

In summer, the seasonal horticultural exhibitions are taking place at the museum. In the coming months lilies, phlox flowers, tomatoes, gladioli and dahlias will be on display. As the exhibition approaches, we always invite you to check the dates, as changes are possible due to weather conditions.

The Latvian National Museum of Natural History has also launched a new educational material – a photo hunt worksheet “Seek and discover!”, which will be interesting for both children and adults. Looking for answers whilst guided by photographs and other clues, participants will visit various exhibitions, learn more about showcased specimens and diverse natural science subjects – mushrooms, plants, insects, birds, mammals, fossils, rocks and minerals. The material will be interesting for both individual visitors and families with children, as well as groups of pupils, higher education students and adults.

In summer, the museum's opening hours remain the same:
Monday, Tuesday – closed
Wednesday to Sunday – open 10:00–17:00

Entrance tickets can be purchased at the museum box office and via Mobilly app.
