What it is the Latvian Museum of Natural History?

The Latvian Museum of Natural History collects, preserves, and studies Latvian and world nature collections. On certain days the museum is open to public. 

What to do at the museum?

Various rocks, minerals, fossils, stuffed animals, insects, plants and fungi are showcased at the museum. There are plenty of interactive games in the exhibition halls, visitors can touch different nature objects, and listen to bird songs. 

The museum is a venue for temporary exhibitions. Throughout spring, summer and autumn various gardening shows are open - about flowers, berries, and fruits. Diverse events are also organized. 

Tours and audio guide 

We offer guided tours about various nature and environmental protection topics. The guided tour lasts 45 minutes. Guided tour in English costs 20,00 €. 
You can also explore the museum by using an audio guide, and listen to information about showcased objects. Audio guide in English costs 5,00 €. 

For families with children

The museum is a venue for events specially organized for families with children.

The last Saturday of September, October, November, January, February, March, and April is the "Family day". "Family day" is targeted at children from age 5 to 12, and during the event specific topic, e.g. migratory birds or fungi are discussed. The written materials used at the event are usually available in Latvian and Russian, but everyone is welcomed to participate. An entrance fee is applied.

Free admission to the permanent exhibitions 30 minutes before the museum closes; on Thursdays – from 17.00 till 19.00. 

Free admission to persons with Disabled Group I or II status (upon presentation of status documents).

In the museum there is an elevator, it is possible to sit down and rest in the exhibition halls, and WC for visitors with disabilities is available.
