A new and improved version of the the exhibition "Mammals of Latvia" has been created with financial support from the Cohesion Fund. As part of the Cohesion Fund project, the exhibition "Mammals of Latvia" has been completely renovated and now displays most of the mammals found in Latvia – a total of 83 taxidermy mounts (49 species). Many of them are on both Latvia’s and Europe’s lists of protected animals.

For the first time visitors can see the golden jackal, which is a new species of mammal in Latvia (first recorded in 2013), as well as Latvia's largest and smallest mammals – the moose/elk and the Eurasian pygmy shrew, respectively.

Visitors can see and compare the summer and winter coats of those Latvia-based species who change their appearance depending on the season: mountain hare, wolf, wild boar, golden jackal, least weasel, and stoat.

The exhibition also features interactive games through which visitors can learn more about mammal tracks, how to spot signs of gnawing, and how to identify animal calls.

The exhibition includes six orders of mammals: insectivores, bats, hares, rodents, carnivores and even-toed ungulates. Carnivores of the family Phocidae (seals) and the harbour porpoise can be found in the "Life in the Seas" exposition.

The renewed exhibition opened on 6 April 2022 (the previous one had been made in 1977).
